Sunburnt Country
The seed for this series was planted in the recent wet summer that Bourke experienced. Revisiting Green Creek, just west of Fords Bridge last February, Jen was inspired by the stark contrast between a barren, dry area she saw and painted last August and the now transformed ‘wetland’ of the Warrego River overflow. The Sunburnt Country series began with two contrasting paintings of the same area, Drought and Flooding Rains. The famous Australian poem, My Country by Dorothea Mackellar then became the framework for this series of paintings of the Bourke landscape.
